I love to read. The older I get the less time I have to read, but I hope that trend will start to reverse as I reach my "twilight" years. I'm trying to use Audio Books a a fill in until then, but now I don't travel as much and can't even find time for them.
My mom started me off as a reader, she's from England and in England kids start school and reading earlier than in the US. We used to go to the library and take out stacks of books for me to read. Sometimes the librarian would give us a hard time about how many books we were taking out at one time. More than once we heard "How can he read 30 books in just one week". When that happened, my mother would just ask the librarian to quiz me on one of the books we had just returned. What I read, I remember, so we never lost that contest. Not bad for a 4 year old kid.
My mother worked at a nursing home and one of the patients was a voracious reader of Science Fiction. As soon as John finished a book he gave it to my mother for me to read. I'll never be able to thank him enough for all those books. I never would have been able to buy all those books for myself. The first book he ever gave me was Anton York, Immortal, by Eando Binder. I read it in one sitting, was hooked and I have never looked back.
My all time favorite author is Allen Dean Foster, but I have many other authors I love to read. I also have an unquenchable thirst for knowledge, so I read a lot of books on "knowledge". Anything I can learn, I'll give it a shot. It keeps my brain tuned up, and some seemingly useless skill have come in handy for me at times.
