J’ack Does Call Offs
I got a call today from Jeremy about J’ack. At first I was worried, but after a few words came out I could hear how excited he was. J’ack is one INTENSE malinois, with a freakishly large head that bites like a freaking crocodile. Having been on the other end of him many times I say this with love in my heart for him and scars on my arms.
J’ack has one small thing you must know to work with him. You can’t make him do something he doesn’t want to. You can try, but it usually goes badly for everyone involved. However, if you are smarter than a fifth grader, you find ways to make him want to do things. Then he does them almost right away and almost every time. Hey he’s not a robot.
Getting J’ack to out can be a problem, unless you figure out a way for him to want to out. Even worse, J’ack and the words call off usually don’t come up in the same sentence, unless the word won’t is in it too. Well not anymore, I explained how to use a long line to teach J’ack the call off and it worked like a champ. I love it when someone is coachable and Jeremy is that for sure. J’ack found out when Jeremy call him off and he doesn’t come, back he hits the end of the long line like a freight train, but when he comes back and downs at Jeremy’s feet, he’ll get sent in for a bite and fight. Voila, J’ack has a call off.
I’m so proud of both of them as this can be a tough behavior to teach, especially with a mega-drive dog like J’ack. I’m sure the decoy (Brandon) probably had a few see the while light moments during the training, but they couldn’t have done it without him.
Way to go guys.
