    Randy, Darryn and Rudi

Graduation day, Darryn and Rudi leave for their duty assignment

Our first handler class from the Nebraska graduated this weekend. Three sheriffs from Utah, one sheriff from Nebraska and a Fish and Wildlife officer all certified and took home their new K9 partners. Darryn took home Rudi, a Belgian Malinois trained in narcotics detection and tracking. He’ll be working the river in a boat as soon as he gets him home. Jake, Jeremy and Seth will be patroling Davis County, Utah with their new partners Dax a Malinois, J’ak also a Malinois and Mojo a Dutch Shepherd. All three of their dogs are dual-purpose patrol and detector dogs. Thanks guys for working so hard and making it such a great class. You can see video of the dogs and handlers on other posts. Good luck and stay safe. Read More

Mojo on a “Code 3″ takedown

    Michael Breton - Monday, 27 July 2009 11:00

Here is Mojo coming after me one night while we were practicing code 3 apprehensions. He was coming too high on the arm and way fast and as a result, missed me or flew off the bite. We worked on it for a bit and this was the end result. Center mass right in the back. Nice job Mojo and Seth. [ Get the Flash Player to see this player. ] Read More

    Celine Steps Up

    Michael Breton - Wednesday, 22 July 2009 02:36

Celine Tracking a PuppyChad went to Chicago to work a re-bar job today, so Celine is taking his place while she is here on summer holiday. She worked at Cascade K9 for 4 years so she knows the ropes at a kennel. This is no ordinary kennel. All of the dogs are police k9s in training. Kind of a working vacation instead of TV and bon-bons. A couple of dogs here are going to be a challenge for her. She swears Yari and Glock have it out for her, but they just like to make noise and see who they can punk out. I’m doubting they’ll punk her. Yari is a big Malinois, really big, really loud and Glock is a Dutch Shepherd. Glock by the way loves to smile at you, so he is always flashing teeth when you see him. This will be a great way for her to earn the cash for the laptop she wants and I’m betting it gets taken care of better if it’s from her money. Read More

    OMG, I’m So Sore

    Michael Breton - Wednesday, 22 July 2009 01:42

Michael with N'ZoI worked out with Celine yesterday and I have no doubt I went overboard. If I could get the bullet in my gun and pull the trigger, I’d put myself out of my misery, but I’m hurting too bad. In case you haven’t heard, Celine has a big $100.00 bet going with Pascale, on who will be the buffest of the two. Celine does not want to lose this bet. Pascale is working out with her friend Kate, who is a personal trainer. They are training for the Harris marathon in November. She’s walking 7 to 10 miles three times a week, 8-12 twice a week and 17+ once a week. Top that all off with lifting 4 times a week and she is going to be buff. I wish I could enjoy the buffness, but I’m stuck here for now and will just have to enjoy it in my mind. Celine has her work cut out for her, but she is working hard and no matter what I’m really proud of her. I just wish she was sore too. Misery loves company. Me on the other hand, I am old, no doubt about it. I haven’t been this sore in a long time. I can catch dogs for hours, but lifting weights and the Nordic Track are killing me. I know I need to get in better shape if I want to keep catching dogs, but damn this hurts. Read More

The Puppies On Hard Surface Tracking

    Michael Breton - Wednesday, 22 July 2009 11:25

DSC_0199-199-2Celine and I tracked the puppies using the HITT method from Steve White. basically you use distilled water to activate bacteria on the ground and have the puppies track the bacteria. All of the puppies are being trained to track on hard surfaces like asphalt, concrete, brick or stone. Things went OK, although I did my usual job of expecting Celine to “KNOW” what I wanted. Had to slow down and explain better, then things went much smoother. We’ll do this for the next two weeks and then see where the puppies are with their tracking. Read More

    Tea Does Her Oral Bridge

    Michael Breton - Wednesday, 22 July 2009 11:17

Tea On The BoxesCeline put an “oral Bridge” on Tea today with marijuana. Tea is starting to do a nose bump as her indication which is what Celine is looking for. Celine has been working hard on getting Tea finished, before she leaves for Connecticut to see Nana and Pepe. Well tonight, Celine worked Tea on cocaine and got the fourth and final odor she needed.
